daVinci Days Presentation - Saturday July 18

1:10 - 1:40 PM “Pervious Planning Perspectives for Healthy Habitats”;

This is a micro charrette; a small creative planning and design workshop.
  • What would we do if we were faced with the need or desire to remove 50% of our local impervious surfaces?
  • How can we effectively work with our neighbors, design experts, scientists, etc. to co-create while providing everyone ownership of the design?
We guide participants toward creating a common vision and then collaborate toward a design that will ultimately serve to recharge local groundwater and subtracting from the danger created from excess stormwater runoff.

1:40 – 2:10 PM “Our Stream: Design Visions for the Dixon Creek”;

Here are the results of the 5 hour charrette of June 27, 2009. We will summarize process and product of this mini charrette. 3 teams each created a collaborative vision for the future of this creek. These diverse teams brought their expertise and local knowledge together to create better human/creek interaction as well as environmental sustainability. This is an exercise in creating robust common visions. It is robust, because as each participant's designs are facilitated into one common vision, that vision increases in complexity and ownership.
